Processing Grief During the Holidays

As the holidays approach I am always utterly aware that for some people it is not a season of joy but rather a season filled with reminders of loss, hurt and unprocessed pain.

This year I’ve decided to give myself and my family the gift of life by walking the path of forgiveness. I’ll be tying up some loose ends, processing some unfinished business as well as untethering myself from the various grievances I was never meant to carry.

I find it strangely fitting that today I cannot find my glasses. How we see things in life affects everything we do. It’s hard to move forwards when you can’t see where you are going.

Here are scriptures I am holding fast to today.

“For we live by faith, not by sight.”
‭‭2 Corinthians 5:7

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
‭‭Psalm34:18

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:1

I have found a lot of relief in pouring out my complaints to God through journaling my prayers followed by reading my Bible.

Today I am feeling broken, but I will not always feel this way.
